A few years ago, this fun exercise appeared in a chat room I frequented. I had so much fun, and found how many different artists people listen to, that I wanted to share it here and see what you all have on your playlists (maybe I'll find someone knew to listen to!)
Here's what you need to do. Put your MP3 player (or Media Player) on Shuffle. Then, as the songs play (or if you can cheat like I do and see the playlist before they play) write in the song (and artist) that corresponds with the following list. Finally, post it in the comments for all of us to see. Most of all, have fun with it! As you can see with mine, sometimes the song fits really well, other times, not so much, but that's where the fun lies.

Fun and Games
After a weekend of running around, it was nice last night to come home, have dinner, then play bowling on the PS3.
Our friend got a PS3 Move recently, and for his birthday Hubby bought him the bowling game for it. What a blast! It was the first time I have ever bested my hubby at bowling (well, at least until he figured out how to curve the ball!)
How do you spend your down time? Movies, museums, bowling alleys? Doesn't it feel great just to unwind every now and then??

It's beginning to look at lot like... Christmas!
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving spent with family and friends. We did here (even got to a hockey game-- the home team won, although we were all rooting for the visiting team :) ).
Saturday we got the tree up and "Christmassed" the house a bit. We usually do this the day after Thanksgiving, but decided to wait this year. (It will still be up until at least New Year's Day-- it's an artificial tree, so we can do that-- darn allergies keep us from having a real one!)
The back porch is almost done (which means later this week I can move the stuff out of my kitchen and back to where it should be).
I will be setting a date for our Cookie Party soon. We had a fun time with this last year and are looking forward to it again. Everyone brings a cookie to share (and recipe for me to post :) ) and I provide sugar cookies and decorating materials for all to decorate. Erik just bought some new cookie cutters on his camping trips, and we are looking forward to using them.
What holiday traditions do you have?

My First Thanksgiving Turkey
If you have never cooked turkey before, or even if you have, I thought you'd enjoy what happened with the first turkey I ever "cooked".
The first year my husband and I were married, I decided it would be a great idea to host Thanksgiving for my family and his. I had never cooked a turkey before, but how hard could it be?
I bought the frozen turkey, left it in the freezer, and about two days before I was going to cook it, I put it in the fridge to thaw. The day before, I realized it was still frozen solid and called my mom for advice. She said to put it in the sink in cold water and leave it. It would be fine.
So, Thanksgiving morning, I got up while it was still dark, started my oven and followed my cookbook recipe for cooking my bird (which I was still pulling chunks of ice out of-- this should have meant something to me, but at the time, I was ignorant).
I put the bird in and went back to sleep. Over the next several hours I repeatedly basted the turkey and put together the other dishes we were having (the only other thing I can be sure we had was cranberry sauce). The house smelled great. Our families arrived (most of them, anyway). And it was time for the turkey. We pulled it out of the oven and tested the temperature. Not done. So, we put it back in and chatted with the family. Eventually we realized the turkey was never going to finish. It had still been frozen when I put it in the oven. So, we cut off pieces that were done (my brother assured us this was fine) and ate. I put the turkey back in, to finish. It never did.
After that, I only bought fresh turkeys (for a few years) and never had that problem again. I've since returned to the frozen turkey (always making sure to take it out in time to thaw) and have never had a problem.

Happy Monday!
We had a very nice weekend, hope you all did too! Saturday, we went to the apple orchard, all excited to pick apples, unfortunately the picking was closed for the day as the ground was too wet. So, we had a nice lunch in their store and bought a peck of already picked apples--apple crisp and apple pie here we come!
After lunch, we went to a pumpkin farm and had fun looking at the displays (we figured out what all were, except one-- there was one with a woman (pumpkin head and grey, long haired wig) in a long blue denim dress-- if you know what story/nursery rhyme/movie she could be, let me know!)
We did the corm maze, but didn't get lost-- found a few dead ends, though! Then we picked out our pumpkins.
Back home, we decorated more outside, then did our pumpkin carving.
I picked a white pumpkin this year- mostly because I liked its face.
I was going to do a Pumpkin Masters carving of a mummy, but didn't want to reduce the outline, so I free handed it.
When everyone was done, we placed them in the graveyard growing in our front yard for some pictures. (The second is taken with a candle light option).

Favorite Comic Character
Last night we watched Superman/Batman Apocalypse. It was great! While watching I was reminded, once again, why Batman is my favorite superhero. A human with really cool toys!!!
I really like the darker version of Batman, not so much the campy one. I like the raw emotion. I like how it takes a lot to earn his trust, but once you have it, you have it. I like how he will take big risks to accomplish his goals.

False Advertising
This weekend we went to the local apple festival (which I wouldn't have know about if it wasn't for friends of ours mentioning their daughter was singing there!)
We were excited! Apple fest! I couldn't wait to see the vendors thinking they'd be giving samples of the different types of apples in the area-- maybe we'd try some new variety we hadn't had before. I wanted to taste test the ciders and see whose is best this year. See all the gadgets for apples-- peelers, corers, cutters. Check out new recipe ideas. Get some caramel apples, or apple crisp, or apple pie.
I walked down to meet up with my son (who had gone with friends). After an enjoyable time listening to the kids sing (the group Brett spent the summer with for Alice in Wonderland) we wandered around the tents set up in the street to find...a street bazaar.
Now, I don't want you to think I didn't have a good time, because I did. Spending time with family and friends is always good! It's just that I was disappointed. It was the apple fest, and there was one booth selling apples. The theatre had candy apples, and a couple other places had apple inspired desserts, but it wasn't what I had concocted in my mind. To me, it was false advertising.
I've had this happen with books, too. You read the back cover and are really excited about the book, but what is on the back, doesn't happen until almost the end of the book, and you feel disappointed. (at least I do-- I thought that was what the story was going to be about.)
When I was working on my query letter, this was sitting in the back of my mind. I could make an exciting letter if I focused on the quest Princess Kaylee has to go on, but that doesn't happen until half way through the book. It's not the most important thing in the story, and I didn't want an agent to think I was falsely advertising my book. Did I do the right thing by focusing on a different angle? I don't know- I am still waiting to hear back from my queries. But, in my heart, I know I did the right thing. I didn't falsely advertise my story.

Spring
Wow! It's hard to believe that spring is finally here. We have been teased with temperatures in the upper seventies, followed by days in the thirties and nights in the teens. I know, I should be used to it after all these years.
I have been busy doing lots of reading over the last couple of months. I go through periods where I read very little, to times when I have all I can do to put a book down and do what I need to be doing. I figure I have re-read somewhere around 80 books and read about five new ones (I have a couple of new ones I am waiting to start so I can read them without interruption, as well as a few I am waiting to be released.)\
Last Sunday, my husband and I enjoyed a trip to Syracuse to watch Tran-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) perform Beethoven's Last Night. It was performed at the Landmark Theatre, a 1920's movie theater. What a beautiful setting for a wonderful performance. We had a great time.
Before we watched the show, we grabbed a quick bite to eat at Clark's Ale House. I had the beef and barley soup, while my husband had a roast beef sandwich-- it was delicious. The perfect spot for a quick bite to eat before the show.
Easter is just around the corner and will be followed by camping trips once school is out. We are looking forward to all of our scheduled trips with our friends.

Mad Libs
We went out to dinner tonight and there was a mad lib on my son's menu. It was a blast reliving all those memories of doing mad libs as a child, so I decided to share my fun with you.
For those of you who don't remember mad libs, you make a list of words then insert them into a paragraph. It usually comes out total nonsense- which is the fun of it.
Here is a mad lib for you- let me know how yours turned out by sharing it in the comments.
You will need:
1) adjective
2) adverb
3) verb
4) noun-plural
5) descriptive phrase
6) adjective
Today was (adjective). I was (adverb) (verb) at my job. I dealt with a bunch of (noun-plural). They were (descriptive phrase). Hopefully tomorrow will be (adjective).
